We do not know how many protesting Iranians have been killed by a regime of murderous old men and the blocking of international internet connections prevents us from knowing. Estimates of 2500 killed have been made. What we do know is that The government broadcasts, on its own television service, images of the corpses of its victims lying in the street in front of Tehran’s forensic medicine office, stating baldly that they “were killed.” To justify this horrific crime, it also broadcasts scenes of public property being set on fire, and shamelessly, after two years of genocidal Israeli propaganda about “human shields,” the Iranian state has adopted the same discourse for itself, issuing official statements warning families not to allow their teenagers and young people to join the protests, because “the terrorists” will use them as “human shields.” We also do not know the involvement of Israel in what has happened having previously bombed the country and carried out assassinations, or the real popularity of their asset, the son of the former Shah whose regime was  equally repressive. What see3ms likely is that interference and threats by the USA can only strengthen the position of the regime and its Revolutionary Guard who were the chief beneficiaries of the privatization and “liberalisation” policies of the early 2000s and the continued policies of “austerity”.

One of the most successful Israeli exports has been to make universal the use of “Terrorist” to describe any opposition to established, usually authoritarian power, Another old man, Yuweei Musuveni re-elected yet again as President of Uganda to carry out the policies of Christian  Fundamentalism and international banking, referred to opposition to his Presidency and his gargantuan vote as Terrorists. It was used to by another re-elected President. Just a few months ago in Tanzania yo describe the opposition which had been disappeared or killed by state forces under her control.

In the USA “Domestic terrorism “ is now liberally applied to anyone opposing the Smash and Grab policy and tactics of ICE, the armed militia of the Trump regime.  It is especially applied to any one killed by one of its members  emboldened by impunity that comes from immunity to prosecution.  The murder of Renee Good by an ICE agent works in every way as an act of terror in that anyone can be killed and especially women of whatever colour as well as black people. The opposition the killing has ignited in the city of Minneapolis has in turn led to the occupation of the city by the armed forces of the regime.

Real terror aimed at   Spanish meteorologists and climate scientists has re-started through every fascist and Francoist  channels. This in part for the local circumstance of the fascist regional authorities of the Valencia seek to wriggle out of any responsibility for the hundreds of deaths from flooding there in October 2024 which involves the tactic of flooding the information sphere with shit and the more universal fanaticism of right wing forces to the realities of human made  climate change. Rubén del Campo, a spokesperson for  the weather forecasting service Aemet has talked of messages attacking him with his photo attached.

The present regime of the Russian Federation not satisfied with how long it is taking to conquer and occupy “little brother” Ukraine has now concentrated its efforts on terrorizing the peoples of Ukraine by constant and heavy rocket and drone attacks on the country’s water and heating infrastructures at the height of a long and very cold winter. IN Gaza the cold and flooding has meant resettling displaced and distressed people in tents while making aid a wholly arbitrary process a further act of terror.

Young Moroccans  arrested for protesting cuts to both public education and healthcare, cuts depriving young people especially are still in prison  and allegations of the use of torture against them assessed as credible by Amnesty International. So far, more than 2,400 people are being prosecuted in connection with the protests, and dozens who took part in a non-violent demonstration have been charged with acts of violence. Meanwhile the country hosts the football African Cup of Nations with a successful national team  and favourable international sports media coverage.

Despite UN estimates of Seven Hundred Tanzanian people, yes 700, being killed by the country’s “security” forces as they protested one-party state elections, the close to 100% vote winner continues to rule by force. Fresh protests planned for Tanzania’s Independence Day were met with more threats of official violence, a curfew and the ridiculous claim that planned protests would be a coup d’etat. There has been no international condemnation because Tanzania is a World Bank/IMF good boy. What international support has been for the Tanzanian protest has been from the consistently brave youth of neighbouring Kenya who have plenty of experience of state violence.

In Britain 8 people accused of damage to weapons companies, both British and Israeli, that supply weapons to Israeli Armed Forces for their devastation of Gaza are on hunger in British jails. Five of them are now in a dangerous stage of this strike. This is at a time when Britain’s national socialist government is proposing the abolition of juries for possible sentences of three years or less in the name of efficiency. Juries, the only institution in which “ordinary” people have effective power, are essential to those charged with acts of political protest.

In Chemmani, northern Sri Lanka, a mass grave was uncovered earlier this year. More than 200 skeletons, some of them children, have been exhumed near an area where Tamils were killed fighting or “disappeared” when Tamil demands for autonomy and equal rights were crushed by the Sri Lankan state when it took on an overt characteristic of ethnic superiority.

Around 1,000 police officers from the Military and Civil Police forces of Rio de Janeiro were deployed on Thursday in the Complejo do Salgueiro favelas in São Gonçalo to chase leaders of the Comando Vermelho (CV), one of Brazil’s largest and most influential criminal organizations. The action was part of the second phase of Operation Containment, an initiative launched to halt the gang’s territorial expansion following a deadly mission in October that resulted in 122 fatalities, including five law enforcement operatives. Once again, the police invasion failed to arrest any of 44 named top guys of the Comando but terrorized the neighbourhoods.

In The Drugs column of WealthofNegations the question has been often raised as to What Is A Gang? This has been raised in the Nigerian legislature in face of a series of kidnappings. The Nigerian Senate has passed an Anti-Terrorism Act amendment that includes the death penalty for kidnapping in the face of being challenged by the Lower House to reveal the names of the financers of kidnappers of whom Islamist groups are only one. Authorities have provided different explanations for the identities of the financiers. Officials have consistently acknowledged that the terrorists operate with financial and political backing. Security agencies also maintain intelligence reports pointing to specific financiers. Despite this, the identities of the sponsors remain largely withheld from the public.

The abuse of children in a variety of detention “facilities” appears to be an international hobby. In recent days allegations of abuse at the private Huntercombe Group’s mental health unit in Maidenhead Britain involve the force-feeding, strip-searching and violent restraint of children has prompted a collective civil case against this “provider” to the National Health Service. In the same country two former nuns have been found guilty of carrying out historic campaigns of abuse against vulnerable youngsters at Scottish children’s homes. run by the Catholic order the Sisters of Nazareth. In Egypt 20 children in pre-trial detention have been subject to overt torture techniques of waterboarding and electric shock. In Australia 400o children, the majority Indigenous, are incarcerated per annum, forcible restraint and solitary confinement common.

The consciousness that always comes too late for those who suffer from “facts on the ground” has been shown in grisly fashion in the “stable” East African country of Tanzania. The scale of the killings following the declaration of dictator-style election results ─98% for the incumbent─ have now been recognised by the United Nations, whose Human Rights Council, will investigate. The UN of course has little power & is now far more likely to be designated a “Terrorist” organisation, yet they did challenge the smug repeat winner, President Hassan, who has predictably blamed “foreigners for the protests” that were massacred by her “Security” forces and she blamed those her questioned her victory when opposition leaders had been jailed or disappeared, as damaging The “Country’s IMAGE of STATBILITY” which was “stained” by the “Unrest”. WE are talking here about 1000 killed while Hassan opined about “Global Credibility”- which equates with being reliable debt-payers and having World Bank graduates in control of the Administration. Hundreds of people still remain missing.

WealthofNegations salutes Andrei Trofimov who is doing a 13 year sentence in the Russian prison system for speaking out against the invasion of Ukraine. H is now trolling the Russian state to give him more by designating him as ‘a traitor’ for his opposition. The invasion-justifications which change weekly-are seen by him as brutalizing both invader and the invaded.  From the past we are all too aware of how this can happen as when FRELIMO the national liberation party of Mozambique, which had achieved huge gains in child health and literacy, became both corrupt and authoritarian when a war of destabilisation instigated and armed by the then Apartheid South African White Colonial Rhodesia challenged their rule. This war lasted for some years.

Andrei’s courage is a stand against corruption & authoritarianism. We salute him.

ICE, the armed forces in the USA seeking out those who are not 100% Americans has billions at its disposal through President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Act. It has signed a $30 billion contract to convert vacant warehouses into mega detention centres. This will achieve a doubling of the network of mostly privately-operated detention centres. The anticipation is that there will be 100,000 detainees by the end of 2025.

The softening-up process in favour of the White supremacist oligarchy of Honduras began several weeks before the now-underway election of that country. Slimy, unspecific “worries” of Electoral interference by the mildly progressive government were expressed from unnamed sources. Honduras is all too aware of pro-oligarch US interference.  In 2009, the original “legal coup” was initiated in the country and given passive approval by the Barak Obama-Hilary Clinton US Administration. It became a model; Congresses controlled by local oligarchs getting rid of popularly elected Presidents as in Paraguay. As reported in DRUGS the present Trump Administration has gone a step further and backed the oligarch candidate Nasry Asfura with the threat of financial retribution if he were not to be elected. It reminds older folk of a US armchair warrior, Henry Kissinger, stating that the Chilean electorate would have to be replaced for having voted for the socialist Salvador Allende.

The national socialist government of the UK has done what none of the previous Conservative governments could not do, abolish juries for the majority of criminal and political trials. Juries are the one time that “ordinary” people have real institutional power. Meanwhile it pursues its strategy of turning its population against refugees by banning what might be perceived as luxuries, however unreal. Living in “hotels” they are now forbidding refugees from taking taxis to hospitals. This implied not just that refugees were those creating hospital waiting lists but were whizzed back and forth with the taxis they had the money to afford. Elsewhere in Europe, the Slovenian government has introduced an Act of Measures to Ensure Public Safety which gives the police unchecked powers in “security-risk areas” which all coincide with Roma communities. This too comes from a supposedly centre-left government trying to fend off the ultra-right Slovenian Democratic Party which is riding high in the polls.

The re-elected President of Tanzania Samia Hassan of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party which has ruled the country for ever, has promised an enquiry into the deaths of those protesting her victory believed to be in the hundreds. Easy to say when the election win, involving the disappearance and/or delegitimization of opponents beforehand, is what the Israelis call “A Fact on the Ground”; she controls all the levers of the state. Doing a Mother of the Nation number,  Hassan patronized those of the 2000 plus arrested in the protest who might be released because “they knew not what they did.”  Given previous disappearances, little faith is being shown in the promised enquiry, especially amid reports of “Security” forces removing the corpses of protestors from the streets and hospitals of Dar es Salaam to be disposed of elsewhere in a manner reminiscent of the Pinochet military dictatorship which buried its victims in the Atacama desert or dumped them in the sea.

“They grabbed us like dogs” said one Haitian sugar cane cutter in the cross-the-border Dominican Republic as his neighbours were expelled from their self-made settlements (batey). In October 2024 a quota system was introduced to remove 10,000 foreigners a week. Sugar it may be remembered, was the crop ideally suited to slavery but many Haitians have no choice. Climate crises, real crises of hurricanes, floods and mudslides mean that one in four Haitian households have been displaced.

In a case of “the consciousness that always comes too late” it emerges that the assault on the Alemão and Penha neighbourhoods of Rio di Janeiro in which 126 people were killed did not catch any of the leaders of the Comando Vermelho (CV), its purported aim. This was admitted by the Deputy Intelligence Secretary of Rio’s military police. Given the success-boasting of the regional politician who gave the go-ahead to the murderous invasion, we doubt the Deputy Intelligence Secretary will be long in post.

Police fired gunshots in the streets of Dar es Salaam, capital of Tanzania, against masses of people out to protest at an election which the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party continued its control of the country. People protested despite the curfew in the districts of Mbagala, Kikuya and Gongo Mboto. In a tactic common to challenged authoritarian leaders, internet access was cut. Mobilisation of protestors was successful despite this and the curfew and prior to the CCM’s Samia Hassan’s election, her two biggest challengers were excluded from the race. As the ‘Winner-Takes-All’ outcome of elections now involves a comprehensive ‘All’, this has become common when it includes control of Electoral Commisions. In countries like Turkey, challengers are imprisoned as the Winner controls the police and Judicial institutions.

The President of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo, publicly denounced efforts to overturn “the will of the people as expressed in the 2023 election”. As a distinctly moderate reformer in a situation of oligarchic power, he is well aware of the fate of a previous moderate reformer President Jacobo Árbenz, removed in a CIA-Madison Avenue coup and of the new style of “legal coup” against the elected President of neighbouring Honduras in 2009 which was given tacit approval by the US Obama-Clinton Administration. He would also know the consequences of a successful coup. Earlier oligarchic governments pursued a policy of murderous terror against its Indigenous Mayan population.

The gun-happy, impunity-drunk “security” forces of Kenya made it their business to tear-gas and
shoot live bullets at crowds when the body of Raila Odinga arrived for viewing at Nairobi’s Moi
International Sports Centre in the Kasarani neighbourhood, killing 3 people. The next day his
brother appealed to crowds to give the security forces no excuse: “Raila should not be tear-gassed in death. He has been tear-gassed enough when he was alive. Please let us not cause a situation where he is tear-gassed again,” he said. As it stood, it was already an insult to Raila’s memory to be in a stadium named after the worst of Kenya’s Western-backed elect dictators who had him imprisoned for many years. The courage of Kenya’s youth in confronting a brutal and corrupt state has inspired revolt against regimes of violent inequality all over the world. The mourners assembled in Moi International Sports Centre were cross-generational but still fair game for those in uniform with a gun.

The national Labour government of Britain has done its best to make the country terrifying for refugees seeking asylum. It has invoked talk of “an island of strangers” in a gesture of empathy for people screaming hatred at refugees temporarily housed in “hotels” often strategically placed in the poorest areas of the country. The Ministry of the Interior (with the cosy name Home Office) refuses to put on record that there are no official figures showing that asylum seekers are more likely to commit sexual offences than British nationals. It has thrown more petrol on the flames by saying publicly that asylum-seekers cannot buy luxuries like “snowmobiles, timeshares or armoured cars” using Home Office pre-paid cash cards. Unsurprisingly, this recent policy change coincided with a localised leafletting campaign by an emboldened British National Socialist Movement with white supremicist, neo-Nazi origins going back to the early 1960s and racist slogans eerily resonant with the current global state assault on refugees and migrants – ‘The Coloured Invasion’.

Many of the bodies of Palestinian hostages/prisoners─an estimated 135─ released by the Israeli
state show clear signs of torture. Many came from the Sde Teiman “detention centre” in the Negev
desert. This was supposed to have been “internally” investigated last year when it was highlighted for
physical and sexual abuse.

India has deported 40 Rohingya people back to Myanmar in the most brutal manner. The Rohingya are a “minority” people in Myanmar whose land was grabbed by terror methods of ethnic cleansing. Hundreds of thousands fled the country to all over the sub-continent of Asia, mostly Bangladesh. The Forty in India were put  on a plane from Delhi to an island  in the Bay of Bengal, put on a naval vessel and forced into the sea  with life jackets but with their hands bound off the coast of Myanmar, the country they had had to escape from.

Social media activists  with any record of criticizing  the Tanzanian government  are liable to be abducted and disappeared. The country has been ruled by the same CCM party (Chana Cha Mapinduza) since 1977m close on Fifty years. All over the world those who report and publicize publish mobilizations via social media are under threat.  In Tanzania such a person, Edgar Mwakabela, better known as Sativa,  says he came close to death when abducted in the capital Dar es Salaam, beaten, shot and dumped in a wildlife park. With amazing luck and determination he survived portrait and social media artist Shedrack Chaula is likely less lucky, he has been missing for over a year.

El Salvador’s Cecot super-prison, an outsourced punishment facility, had to release some Venezuelan prisoners under one of President Trump’s many deals. Mervin Yamarte, who had  worked in a tortilla factory in Texas before being kidnapped by ICE, reported that upon arrival he was beaten and told “welcome to the cemetery of living men” by the prison’s director Belarmino García. Prisoners had no access to lawyers or any other part of the outside world.

Companies with no detention experience want to run Trump’s ICE camps. Obscure disaster-response firms see gold in them there jails.

In Britain over 500 people were arrested in a single day for wearing or carrying anything with the words Palestine Action. 112 of them were over 70 years old and are liable to 14 years in jail. A group with this name has been designated “terrorist” on account of some British-made war planes destined for Israel where such planes give it impunity. When Palestinians are being killed on a daily basis by an invading army and Israeli civilians, the lack of any sense of proportion in an instinctively authoritarian British government is scary in itself.

The Peruvian government of President Boularte which came to power in a legalised white elite coup has enacted a pardon for the many “Human Rights abuses” by State forces between 1980-2000. These include the murder and torture of Indigenous peoples who are Peruvian citizens. It denies justice for past crimes and strengthens a sense of impunity for present and future ones including those of the President herself.

“Gaza is simply an experiment by the ultra‑rich, trying to show all the people of the world how to respond to humanity’s rebellion. They plan to bomb all of us [[….]] those of us in the Global South, at least.”  Gustavo Petro

When one hears the words “human rights” it’s clear that people are really in the shit. Even those who organise to tryand protect them are not exempt. Cristobal, the main such protector organisation in El Salvador has announced that its members and staff are going into exile in face of real and credible threats from the Bukele regime. This oligarchic government has made the country into the main outsourced Company to imprison whoever the North American Trump regime decides to imprison.

But in line with that regime’s goal of self-sufficiency it is heavily advertising its own super-max prison in the Florida swamps. It speaks of the surrounding alligators with relish. Some of the costs will be at the expense of Emergency services. No expense spared. Prison guards will be able to earn $11,600 a month plus overtime. The average wage in the USA is $5,700 a month.

It is not just East African countries like Kenya whose governing elites deploy murderous repression against their own protesting, mostly young citizens. In West African Togo where the Gnassingbé dynasty has been in power for fifty years 10 people have been killed and many others imprisoned and tortured for protesting against the regime’s corruption and nepotism but its treatment of Aamon rapper and critic. In the West such people are smeared or threatened with deportation. In Togo, as if to show off “African backwardness” after his detention and torture an old standby of the USA and Russia was used. HE has been detained as “mentally unstable” in a psychiatric “facility”.

And so it continues in Nairobi, Kenya as in Gaza, death at the hands of state-sanctioned terror. This time demonstrations against the corrupt and violent Rufo government to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the historic Saba Saba (Seven Seven) pro-democracy protests. This has so far led to at least 31 deaths over 100 injured and 500 arrested. Arrests previously have removed any guarantee of continued life. This was not just a Nairobi protest. Thousands travelled from all over the country despite armed police trying to block off the city.

Sixteen mostly young people with most of their lives ahead of them, as they say elsewhere, were killed protesting on the streets of Kenya. They were commemorating the deaths and disappearances of sixty people one year ago who themselves were protesting against the corruption of the political class. With limited international media coverage of deaths in police custody; the shooting to kill of protestors & bystanders by a police drunk on impunity go on. The well-fed and immaculately suited Interior Minister with the expensive haircut accused the demonstrators of launching a coup d’etat and said nothing of the deaths and the impoverishment & insecurity faced by fellow inhabitants of the country.

Last week protestors took to  the streets of Nairobi, capital of Kenya to express their outrage at the death in police custody of teacher and activist Albert Ojwang, arrested for talking of police corruption. There is a long history of brutal repression by successive government elites. In this instance a pathologist of the government itself refuted the internationally common police narrative, that the cause of death was Albert “hitting his head against a cell wall”. At a further demonstration on the 17th, a policeman in camouflage gear shot a bystander in the head at close range and was photographed doing so.

The new militarised food hubs in Gaza- offered as a substitute to aid operations previously less compromised or not embedded, and whom have all been terrorized and systematically smeared with lies by the Israeli army and the UN, were inaugerated last week. In their first days thousands of hungry Palestinians were forced to wait in metal cages for hours upon hours while being biometrically screened. Some, desperate for food were then kidnapped and pumped for information about other already biometrically identified relatives. These methods of coercion – including tactical starvation – will surely be studied and redeployed. Meanwhile, the American security contractors and Israeli commanders who’ve been operative in Gaza will be prized for what they’ve learned  So too, will those participating in the practice whereby Israeli recruits localy based alternative militias to steal the “aid”  and to assist the IDF in shooting the hungry when all other humiliation and terror fails.

Effective Terror by rulers depends on imprisoning or disappearing even those innocent of the laws made by such rulers. It is visible in Palestine, Sudan, Belarus & under the Trump regime in the USA. One such innocent person, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a foreign-born long time resident of the USA was “mistakenly” sent to the outsourced “super prison” in El Salvador. In this prison those who proclaim their innocence are beaten even more than are other prisoners.

Stephen Miller, Mr Trump’s pitbull says he cannot be recovered from the prison and that it is “arrogant” of the US press to be telling El Salvador what it should do. He may have learned this piece of conjuring from earlier exponents of effective terror, the Guatemalan state, itself trained by US & Israeli military forces & that carried out genocide against its own Indigenous Mayan citizens from the 1970s into the 80s. In response to any criticism of this genocide the achitects of terror & mass murder replied: “they think they can tells us to do because we are Indians.”

Immediately after the October 2024 devastating flood in Valencia, Spain that caused the deaths of 240 people Fernando Valladares, one of the climate scientists who had warned of such an event was threatened with death by hanging on social media. His crime was to have been correct and to have identified global warming as causative.

In the last week in the USA some one thousand workers at the national weather service NOAA have been selectively culled, losing their jobs. Some have requested anonymity for fear of retribution. You lose your job, your income and are then scared to boot. Why? Because it will be known you are likely to have been fired on account of giving the known facts as to the reality of global warming. The ‘Chainsaw Charlie’ double act of Argentine President Milai and Elon Musk made a graphic display of what they were going to do to any institution that in anyway limited the power and scope of the exploitation of workers and the planet. In Latin America as Milei must have known it is a tool of terror. In 1975 the then dictator President of Paraguay Stroessner had a local Communist Trade Unionist cut up while alive with a chainsaw while, too delicate for the blood, listened to the screams on the telephone. But then Milei is an admirer of the most recent Argentine dictatorship who tossed tortured opponents, dead or alive, from aeroplanes into the deep, deep sea. At the moment, having taken a chainsaw to pensions, his forces of law’n’order are beating up pensioners
who object to this state of affairs.

A while back, August 2024, Wealth of Negations reported on and celebrated youthful protest in response to gross price inflation and against the financially corrupt & militarily dominated government of Nigeria. There is a long history in the country of the suppression of youth revolt against the Austerity For Others policies imposed by the IMF and World Bank & enthusiastically implemented by military dominated governments at no cost to themselves.

This recent protest does come at a heavy cost for those joyfully protesting. 76 protestors including 29 minors were arrested and charged with criminal offences including treason- warranting death sentences. When the young protestors finally appeared in court several months later, four of the defendants collapsed from exhaustion.

It is possible that futher visibilising such state terror serves a purpose of discouraging people from ever again protesting. The deliberate leak by the USA of torture in its Abu Ghraib prison; and the Israeli military having no qualms in disseminating images of destruction and death in supposedly ‘safe spaces’ has indeed served such a purpose: any shame outweighed by the message. ‘See Just How Brutal We Can Be!’. The Military dominated Nigerian government once executed Nigerian writer Ken Saro-Wiwa despite his global fame for having defended his native Ogoni territory from ecological destruction by the world’s oil oligarchs.

But insofar as the recent Nigerian protests were celebrated on these pages as a legitimate push-back against price inflation exacerbated by a predatory state and against the impact of an ongoing climate catastrophe on the poor – it would be irresponsible and callous not to publicize this threat of executions – as Nigerians themselves are currently doing. Indeed, protest specifically aimed at the state terror unleashed on children has led to the children’s release on the orders of President Bola Tinubu, but others remain in prison and under threat. Real people are liable to be really killed.
