The submerging of the horrors revealed by the Epstein files has used a variety of filling-the-pool -with-shit tactics. The proverbial pool has been swamped by the reckless bombing attacks on the country of Iran. The language used for this onslaught – “Operation Epic Fury” and “Lethalitymaxxing” derives from the exclusive vocabulary of political women haters. The adolescent crudeness of elite male power can also be found in the Epstein files with its references to “young pussy flesh”. The hysterical male rage directed at recent social and political gains made by women and the MeToo movement has been described as “the hysteria that has developed about the abuse of women” by one of their number, as a ‘tipping point’.
What also emerges from the swamp is that one faction of elite male power is obsessed with genetics and all its fascistic possibilities. Epstein and Elon Musk see themselves as an ego-driven solution to the male hysteria over “empty cribs”, a demographic crisis. For this they, at different times, decided they needed cult-like harems to carry their unique ‘selves’ into a privileged future.
The Iraqi feminist advocate Yanar Mohammed was killed in an armed attack on her home in Baghdad. Two unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire as she stood outside her home. Mohammed founded the first women’s shelter in Iraq to protect women from trafficking and so-called “honour killings,” becoming the target of death threats over her activism. Not flinching from being “between a rock and a hard place” she confronted the US invasion earlier this century as well as the non-choice between militias and ISIS.
The World Health Organisation has produced evidence that nearly two-thirds of maternal deaths occur in countries at war, externally or internally. In 2023 alone an estimated 160,000 women died from preventable maternal causes, “the intersection of gender, ethnicity, age and migration status can increase the risk women and girls face who are both pregnant and living in fragile contexts”. The maternal mortality estimates from 2000 showed that global progress had stalled and that maternal mortality remained staggeringly high in low-income and crisis-affected settings.
Spain is also one of the few countries with an official, dedicated database specifically tracking femicides. Recent in- person interviews with 106 female migrant domestic workers by highly effective women politicians, have shown that four out of five earn less than €15,000 a year — below minimum wage for full-time work – with shared experiences of gender-based violence in the workplace. Half of the women surveyed reported such acts, ranging from verbal abuse to rape — yet none filed a police report. The fear of repercussions including loss of employment and/or permits is clearly preventive – as for so many migrant workers elsewhere.

More than 70% of people displaced in Sudan– forced to flee from their homes by the violent conflict between two armed groups, factions of a previous dictator, are women and children. Many are widows. Even before the fall of the town of El-Fasher in the Darfur region to one group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) 75% of women-headed households faced food insecurity without access to income or aid and facing the military strategy of rape. Since the capture by one force of the major town in the region other Darfur towns face famine with women facing the brunt.
The publication of some part of the “Epstein files” make it clear to women and girls that they live in a world where so many of the richest and most powerful men alive are not bothered by their exploitation but indeed revel in it. Meanwhile, the US Minister of War Pete Hegseth is now floating the idea that only heads of households, the male ones, should be able to vote.
Letters sent by the French state to 29-year-olds suggesting that they should make children were sent to men and women presumably in the knowledge that the selfless work involved would mostly be done by women. This is quite clearly understood by women everywhere and articulated by those in Japan and South Korea with their own “demographic crisis.” The pressure to have babies by patriarchal family-values men from Vladimir Putin to Elon Musk is on the rise, fueled not just by gender inequality but racism that revels in global inequality manifested in a targeted hatred of migrants.
In Indiana in the USA this “demographic crisis” politics is directed specifically at women with an ever-more extreme incitement to violence against anyone associated with abortion. A group of anti-abortion fanatics called “Voices for Life”. wants to force the Indiana state to publicly release records associated with all abortions performed there, abortion providers. Eleven abortion providers have been murdered in the U.S. since 1993, and abortion clinics continue to experience arson attacks and invasions. From 2023 to 2024, there were 37 reported cases of stalking and 38 reported cases of assault and battery against abortion providers.

Earlier in December one of the largest ever demonstrations against femicide in Brazil took place. It was organized and grew after a series of cruel femicides. Tainara Santos was one, dragged for a mile along a Sao Paulo Expressway by an ex-boyfriend. In another instance women were killed by a man who could not tolerate their superior situation at an educational centre. The mobilizing involved the QUEM ANA LIBERTA social media (Instagram) profile that keeps a record of murdered and disappeared women and has done so since 2017. In 2023 1,492 were killed in Brazil by murders classified as femicide. This is despite the Maria da Penha Law which ensured that femicide carries the harshest penalty, Forty years in prison.
In the many-sided push and pressure on Chinese women to do their patriotic and economic duty and give birth to children, the government has increased the sales tax on condoms by 13%. In Italy while Fascist Prime Minister Meloni is horrified by “empty cribs” she maintains Italy as one of the few European countries to have no minimum wage. Gender discrimination in employment sees women in the lowest possible wage categories while still expected to do their patriotic and economic duty and fill those cribs.
The Inter-American Model Law to Prevent, Punish, and Eradicate Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence against Women, launched on December 10 in Brazil. It is a document with the highest legal standards on the subject, intended to serve as a guide and foundation for the protection of women from violence in digital environments by the congresses, governments, and judicial systems of countries in the region. The landscape of digital violence against women is increasingly broad and sinister. It includes deepfakes, doxing (disclosure of personal information), hate speech spread through troll farms and bots, the use of viral hashtags, gender-biased fake news, and the non-consensual sharing of intimate content. And although such things are on the rise the rise, most Latin American countries lack legal frameworks to protect them from this type of violence. It is to be hoped the Inter-American Model Law will change this. The Supreme Court of India has complained of social media and street protests by women as it considers the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend the life sentence for rape and death given to a politician of the ruling Hindu nationalist BJP party. The UNNAO rape case in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 finally saw the conviction of the politician Sudeep Singh Sangar but the Delhi court’s decision means he is now out on bail. The victim’s family is especially concerned for its safety as Sangar had originally had the victim’s father framed and who subsequently died in police custody. So too the many women having the cheek to demonstrate for justice for the victim at the Supreme Court.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum alleges that she was groped while she was out “meeting the public in the street”. She has put this in the open too by filing a complaint against the man. ”If this can happen to the President,” she said, “what can happen to all the young women in our country.” It already has happened as in the regular killings of women workers in the manufacturing sweatshops of El Paso, and is still happening, hidden by the rhetoric and narrative of the war against drugs and its cartels. Elsewhere women politicians who actively oppose patriarchal norms and their violences like the Spanish Irene Montero are repeatedly vilified and smeared.
In many parts of the world, a “demographic crisis” is blamed on women and their attitudes. Daubed with clichés like “Mother of the Nation” they are called upon to rescue its population by doing their duty. In Italy, Prime Minister Meloni and the previous Pope, have talked of “empty cribs”. In China where the “crisis” is exaggerated by a previous One-Child policy and the infanticide of girls that went with it, along with a resulting surplus of 30 million men, abusive caricatures of unmarried women as childless have reappeared. “Leftover” women as in being like a ten year-old car. It coincided too with a Xi Jinping emphasis on the virtues of family and the Chinese Communist Party’s embrace of Confucian virtues of hierarchic stability at a time of social change and massive inequality.

Two twenty-year old and a fifteen year old woman from one of the poorest areas of the Argentine capital city Buenos Aires, were filmed being tortured and then killed. It was livestreamed on Instagram and watched by at least forty people in their private homes or offices. The evidence produced has been that it was an exemplary killing by a drug gang. There can be no doubt of the levels of brutality of such killings as witnessed regularly in Mexico. The organiser of this horror is said to be a 20 year-old Peruvian. In Chile, Bolivia and Argentina Peruvians are blamed for each and every crime. It is also the case that since chainsaw Milais became President of the country, the killings have reached “record levels” while he regularly attacks feminism and dismantled the country’s Ministry for Women. Thousands of people protesting this horror were met by police with batons and teargas.

A Sudanese woman Qisma Ali Omar is murdered in the manner of the lynching of Afro-Americans, hung from a tree and tortured by of the warring group of men seeking to grab the resources of the country. It is what so passionately described in the lyrics of the song Strange Fruit. The man involved was boastful, happy to be filmed. He is a member of the RSF whose atrocities are the most reported.
96% of women in Northern Ireland have experienced some form of sexual violence. 28 women and a girl have been murdered since 2020.
The recent and ongoing regional civil war in Ethiopia saw its government call on the forces of the Eritrean dictatorship to fight against organisations of the Tigrayan people of Ethiopia. The history is complex, Eritrea having fought a war of national liberation against Ethiopia with women prominent before being sidelined as the liberatory nature of the movement turned dictatorial, developed a specific hatred of the people of Tigray and in the recent past used sexual violence in a strategic manner: not just gang rape but the forcible insertion of metal objects into the uteruses of women from screws to nail clippers. The open intention was to sterilise the women as well as cause maximum pain, while threatening any healthcare workers helping these women. We report this now as cuts in US and European medical aid is denying care to these women in the present.

WoN fears the worst for Julia Chuñil, a Chilean land defender who has now ‘disappeared’ for over 6 months. Julia is an indigenous Mapuche woman in her seventies who has cared for Mapuche land and its many species against the corporate forest-cutting business for many years. She has not been seen since November 8, 2024. Demonstrations have been greeted with silence, intimidation and victim-blaming so commonly used by the Greedy. This involves smears against her family.
The worst has already happened to Sandra Dominguez, an Ayuuk indigenous defender from Oaxaca who acted and campaigned against femicide itself. Her dead body has just been discovered after her ‘disappearance’ in October 2024. She fought for the families of the disappeared as well as standing up to misogynistic politicians within her own Mixe community. The police wheeled out an old stand-by, “victim of gang violence”.

Women and girls make up 53% of people living with HIV worldwide. Cuts in spending by a host of agencies with USAID in the lead will see an increase in deaths and new infections which will affect them most of all with gender-biased cuts in that spending as agencies soften or omit any reference to gender, sexuality or rights.

The lead military torturer of Argentina’s recent history defined subversion as what sets a son against his father. In the Judaeo Christian narrative Cain is the cursed baddie because he laughed at his drunk and naked father. In present day Argentina the President who admires the torturers of the past names the enemy as socialism and feminism.
The so called ‘culture wars’ which bring together President Putin, European fascists, and the present US regime, are at their base, an attack on the very real & inspiring gains made by the women’s movement in the last 50 years or so. At their heart is a personal & global imaginary of us all inhabiting a zero-sum-world in which someone else’s gain will always be at our own cost & loss.
The US Supreme Court contends that any such loss of male privilege must be undone and patriarchal privilege restored. In the present this is further enflamed by a panic about women (or at least the “right kind” of women) not willing to reproduce enough. This growing attack on women’s sexual and reproductive rights to have or to refuse to have children is worldwide.
Of course, there are other long-term “trends” fueling resurgent misogyny, some described by Audre Lourde many years ago; one of them surely being the change in the nature of work and the gender shifts this has brought about. Women workers are still heavily exploited with both threats of, and real violence as a tool.
Consider a dictatorship’s official union encouraging men to smear female unionists with shit in 1970s South Korea, through to the sexual violence of foremen and managers in Mexico and India, so integral to that exploitation. Yet what work can and does do is make for independent incomes and an independence of being which having one’s own wages makes at least a little bit possible.
The historical gains made by women have been made not just from socio-economic shifts but by their determination to organise as women to acquire & assert newly established rights. The simmering feeling that this is intolerable to good or ‘natural’ order has exploded into every kind of violence.
Nostalgia for the male breadwinner of ‘Western’ nuclear family model turns toxic. In its absence men seem to be becoming ever more hysterical. Indeed, the USA’s present tariffs policy can be seen as the fantasy of returning male breadwinner style well-paid jobs to the country. Yet for the fantasy to be realised trade unions (nearly all with both male and female membership) will have to be smashed so that the USA can match outsourced wages and conditions.
Domestic and public sexual violence including femicide is becoming prevalent nearly everywhere. AS the fantasy of high wages for men unravels, it will get grow worse.
It is not just in “Islamic” parts of the world that so called “honour killings” take place and are left unpunished, the same is true in Christian Latin America. Domestic violence throughout the rich and civilized world remains widespread and under-reported. The police refrain that “We are not looking for anyone else” is the tell-tale sign that a respectable Father has murdered his wife or ex-wife and sometimes their children out of sheer spite over his loss of power. In even prosperous and well ordered Austria a woman is murdered by a “partner” every 4 days.
Rape is a strategic weapon of war not just in Africa but in Europe in the late 20th century but war itself tends to be a man’s game, in inclination, expertise and through their own history of mostly male-exclusive organisation and institutions built on hierarchy, obedience and violence. War and the fear it creates through systemic gender based violence reinforces patriarchy, the elevation of the supposed ‘protector’ and this misogynistic order of war perpetuates itself.
Hamas is a direct outcome of years of Israeli brutalisation and the racist refusal to negotiate with any Palestinians. In present day Ukraine folk who have courageously fought for LGBTQ+ rights say that since the invasion of the country that they have been forced to fight alongside the militarist nationalists they detest, who along with those LGBTQ+ in Putin’s Russia are subjected to the same oppresors who have told them it is their sacred duty to become heterosexual & breed.
This is what war does, regular or “irregular” and its present day reappearance & intensification across the globe, with all it’s disparate causes is the surest way of re-asserting the powers and privileges of men. This is a model of domineering & masterful masculinity they believe in, and the model of masculinity they have all been encouraged to think they have lost.

In wealthy Swizerland 15 women have already been killed this year, mostly by men “in the immediate environment”.
In increasingly prosperous Poland femicide remains an unclassified crime. Independent collation of reports and statistics however estimates between 100 and 200 such killings per annum.
Maternal deaths have fallen by 40% worldwide from 2000 to 2023 but remain over 100 times more likely in most of Africa and other “low income regions” than in European countries like Poland and Switzerland.
