In 1921 an Italian general Giulio Douhet published The Command of the Air, proposing a revolution in warfare.
. [It] is much more important to destroy a railroad station, a bakery, a war plant, or to machine-gun a supply column, moving trains, or any other behind-the-lines objective, than to strafe or bomb a troop trench…It] is not enough to shoot down all birds in flight if you want to wipe out the species with a grim metaphor. The most effective method would be to destroy the eggs and the nests systematically.”
USA President April 2026 Iran “has been decimated, decimated. And every day is going to get worse.”

“Ecologically hazardous facilities” as targets was suggested by Vladimir Dvorkin, retired major of Russian Strategic Nuclear Forces. Military Thought 2004
“the modern infrastructure of European states is highly vulnerable with consequences for crucially important targets.”.Vitali Tsygichko in the 2009 Military Thought. In the event of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine not going to plan the concentration on attacking its civilian infrastructure has become a central strategy. The Israeli strategy is to smash up all :aspects of civilian life: residential blocks, power plants, hospitals, water facilities, whatever. The evidence from Gaza and now Lebanon is that this smashing up aims to make places uninhabitable to its Palestinian and Lebanese residents. Recently it was reported that its army demolished three entire villages ─Taybeh, Naqoura and Deir Sery as part of its invasion of Lebanonrigging homes with explosives and razing them to the ground in massive remote detonations “in accordance with the model used in Rafah and Beit Hanoun in Gaza” as announced by Israel’s Minister of War.
